Police parade suspects for defiling three sisters, minor in Edo
THE Edo State Police Command has paraded 18-year-old Emmanuel Chukwuma for allegedly having carnal knowledge of three sisters aged nine, six and four years respectively after tricking them with packets of biscuits. Also, a 65 year-old man, Felix Adebayo was paraded for defiling a 10-year-old girl at Ubiane Community near Aviele Town in Auchi Etsako West Local Council of Edo State.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, while unveiling 117 suspected criminals arrested across the state in the last two months to journalists, also paraded 27-year-old Hope Obasuyi who was dismissed from the Nigerian Military School for offences bordering on indiscipline, armed robbery and impersonation. He was nabbed after his gang member, identified simply as Julius, went to sell a handset he was said to have robbed from a suspect among other criminal activities in the state.
Adegbuyi commended the media for their collaborative efforts in making the command achieve meaningful progress in the fight against crime as well as making the state peaceful and crime-free due to prompt and timely reportage of criminal activities in the state.
He said the police was combat-ready as the -ember months approach, adding that the command’s moves for crime control and management were yielding positive results.
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism to unlawful possession of firearms and murder as well as rape and defilement while 82 suspects among them had been arraigned in court.
Adegbuyi said 35 of the suspects were nabbed for armed robbery, 20 for kidnapping, 33 for cultism, 10 for unlawful possession of arms, six for murder while 13 were arrested for rape and defilement within the period under review, adding that five AK 47 riffles, 25 cut-to-size guns, four double barrel guns, four single barrel guns, three pump action and 52 live ammunitions were recovered from them in addition to one Honda vehicle with registration number (Lagos) LSD 639 BP, one Nissan Premera car with plate number (Edo) BEN 920 FH, one C-Class Mercedes Benz (Abuja) GWA 902 FB, one motorcycle and seven assorted phones.
“Why this press conference is important is that the -ember months are almost here. Globally, between now and end of the year, we have increase in the commission of crime. Edo State Command is strategising to meet up with the challenges associated with -ember months,” Adegbuyi stated.
