Police set up task force on militancy

TO tackle militancy and other criminal activities in the South-South, the Zone 6 Police Command in Calabar has set up a joint taskforce tagged ‘Zonal Task Force’ (ZTF).
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Six, AIG Tunde Ogunsakin, made this known yesterday in Calabar after a meeting with other security agencies in the zone.
It would be recalled that recently, a surveillance helicopter was donated by the force headquarters in Abuja to the command to fight militancy, sea piracy and other forms of crime.
The zonal task force, according to Ogunsakin, stems from a technical committee comprising of sister security agencies and state governors in the zone that was earlier constituted.
The AIG explained that the Zone 6 Command, which covers Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi and Rivers states will extend its helicopter surveillance to Bayelsa.
“Also, we have service commanders of the Navy, Army and the DSS, as part of the meeting.”
