The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned groups planning to stage demonstrations for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to steer clear of Aso Rock and its environs.

The Force said its warning followed a recent order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which restrained individuals or groups from holding protests around sensitive government areas.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday, said the order, delivered in the case of Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Omoyele Sowore & 4 others on 17 October, specifically prohibited gatherings around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

Hundeyin advised intending protesters and counter-protest groups to avoid restricted zones and to channel their grievances through lawful and peaceful means.

He said the police would ensure the free flow of traffic, protection of lives and property, and security of all law-abiding citizens.

“Any person or group that uses protests as a cover to incite violence, carry or use offensive weapons, vandalise public or private property, or engage in acts likely to cause loss of life or serious injury will be dealt with decisively,” Hundeyin warned.

According to him, offenders would be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted under relevant criminal laws, including those related to violent conduct and terrorism, where applicable.
Hundeyin added that anyone found inciting others on social media or other platforms would also be tracked and prosecuted using digital evidence.

He disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory to enforce the court’s order strictly and ensure strategic deployments across key areas.

Hundeyin urged protest organisers to obey the court’s directive and avoid acts that could disrupt peace or threaten public order in the nation’s capital.
