Poultry Association Urges Egg Consumption
AS the world observed World Egg Day yesterday, the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has urged Nigerians to consume more eggs, even as they highlight the benefits attached. The theme of the World Egg Day is” Falling In Love With Eggs.”
Speaking yesterday at an event to mark the day with the theme “Benefits of an egg a day for the Nigerian child”, the president of the association, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, identified egg as God’s natural gift to conquer hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.
Oduntan explained that egg contains large amount of proteins, vitamins and minerals. He said: “Egg contains naturally occurring Vitamin D, useful for calcium and phosphorus absorption for strong bones and teeth. Egg contains other very important nutrients such as selenium, vitamin A and E, folate, riboflavin, choline and lutein.
“Eggs are the best follow up to breast milk in children as it contains the richest mix of essential amino acids. It contains the perfect combination of protein, 12 vitamins and 12 minerals.
