The Presidency says there is no going back on the decision to train over five million youths annually.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, Abiola Arogundade, gave the assurance while donating tablets to 50 Junior Secondary School students of Governor Secondary School, Tudun Wada, Abuja.
Arogundade explained that the gesture to the institution is in tandem with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to promote skills training among the upcoming generation of Nigerians.
She noted that the training of Nigerians, particularly the youths to acquire diverse skills, will make them employable and also enable them to be self-employed after graduation from educational institutions in the country.
She stated that the donation of tablets is therefore, aimed at empowering the students to develop their technical and vocational skills in line with Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
She added that the gesture is the second in a series, which began last July, aimed at stimulating innovation in technical, vocational, and entrepreneurship education among the youths.
Stating that the overall objective is to change our education system from high percentage theory to high percentage practical,” she argued: “We must do this to remain competitive in the fast-changing global technology-based economy.
“We decided to start with carefully selected Junior Secondary School students of this institution in order to encourage high performance.
“Let me, however, assure the others who will not benefit today, that we will return in the near future to encourage them as well in line with the same mandate of the President that no one should be left behind.”
Promising to extend the gesture to school pupils in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country, she expressed gratitude to AFRIONE for partnering with her office to achieve the objective.
