RECTEM graduates 92 at second convocation

The Proprietor, Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has vowed not to relent in promoting technical education as well as continually gear efforts to nib in the bud every attempt to undermine the uniqueness of technical education as veritable antidote to unemployment in the country.

Adeboye was represented by the National Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Joseph Obayemi at the RECTEM’s 2nd Convocation ceremony where 92 students were graduated and Miss Jessica Joy Ikenye emerged as the overall best graduating student. The event took place at RCCG’s Youth Centre, Redemption camp.

“The mission statement and Vision of RECTEM is in sight and the journey to technical breakthrough and innovation by the college is around the corner.

“Apparently, these graduating students are going out there to make the difference and prove their worth in the demonstration of their skills,” he said
Adeboye gave kudos to the management of RECTEM and also appreciated the invaluable leadership quality of the Chairman, Governing Council, Pastor Johnson Odesola and Rector, Dr. Stella Mofunanya.

He lauded the presence of the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaji, who was represented by Director, South-West Zone, NBTE, Olubode Majiyagbe and regarded Bugaji’s representation as an indication that RECTEM is indeed making good progress.

The proprietor challenged the management team of RECTEM to put the school on the global map for academic excellence, entrepreneurship and skill development as well as scientific inventions.

In her Convocation address, Mofunanya said the importance of technical education cannot be undermined, adding that globally, it has become strategic and operational priority of organisations.

“Our institution has fully embraced the aspirations of NBTE on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and the Federal Government National Development plan of 2021 to 2023.

“We are also mindful of the admission policy of 70-30 in favour of technology.

In this regard, RECTEM identified relevant areas of skills needed for our students’ training aimed at enhancing their employability in a rapidly changing world of works,” she said.

She admonished the graduating students not to forget all they have learnt.
Odesola said representation of Prof. Idris Bugaji at the event by Majiyagbe was an official seal to the Diploma Certificates awarded.

“I am convinced beyond doubt that RECTEM is on the path of greatness and technological breakthrough. The achievement so far in the journey of the college in terms of admission enrolment, accreditation, academic excellence and innovation recorded point to great things to come,” he said.

Bugaji, through his representative, said the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) is a system for development, classification and recognition of skills, knowledge understanding and competencies acquired by individuals, irrespective of where and how the training or skill was acquired.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, congratulated the graduating students for having successfully passed a significant phase in their lives.

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Executive Officer, Transerve Disc Technogies, Pastor Cyprian Orakpo, called on corporate organisations and others to support polytechnic education through grants, sponsorships and endowments to enable the realisation of objectives for the setting up of the institutions.

Convocation Guest Lecturer, Prof. John Olawale, delivered a lecture titled: “Innovations in technical education for self-reliance and business spin-offs”.

Ikenye in her valedictory speech, called on the fellow graduating students to make the best use of the opportunities RECTEM granted them as they now have the leeway to practice what they learned.
