Residents and motorists in the Iyana-Isolo area of Lagos have expressed gratitude after a pedestrian bridge at the Five Star Bus Stop collapsed yesterday, with no casualties reported.
The incident occurred less than a year
Despite the damage, no injuries were reported. LASEMA, in collaboration with other responders and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), swiftly cordoned off the area and implemented traffic control measures to prevent further incidents.
A heavy-duty forklift was deployed to clear the debris. Officials from the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) were also on-site to remove rubble and concrete.
A tricycle rider, Prince Enyan Abara, told The Guardian that previous repair work on the bridge had been inadequate. “They did some plastering work…after the iron rods were exposed…The slabs or the beam were not changed, so nothing special was done,” he said.
Another resident, Busayo Emmanuel, expressed relief that no lives were lost. “We were lucky that nobody died in the incident,” she said.
