THE Chairman, Kogi State Inter-Party Advisory Committee, Ibrahim Itodo, has advised President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, to make the resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex a reality.

Itodo, who spoke while setting agenda for the newly elected President said when the steel complex is brought to full production capacity it will generate employment opportunities and increase revenue generation.

“In Kogi State, the major project that has been lying comatose is the Ajaokuta Steel Complex. During the election campaigns the issue of the resuscitation of the complex was at the front burner.

“There was an allegation that the President-elect killed democracy when he overthrew Shehu Shagari’s administration in 1983. All the projects started by that government were not sustained.”

According to him, the Shagari administration was committed to the Ajaokuta Steel Complex where it invested enormous resources, but the regime was cut short by the coup. He observed that though the allegations may be campaign gimmick, the new government should not overlook the potentials of the complex.

Itodo indicated that abandoning the complex would lead to losing over a million jobs.

According to him, “Buhari should see the project as his first priority by working hard to resuscitate it major source of revenue apart from crude oil.”
