Tension continues to mount over the chieftaincy title in Kano as heads of the military, the director of the Directorate of Security Service (DSS), the Commissioner of Police, and top echelons of paramilitary agencies in the state have converged at the Nasarawa palace.

The deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, was brought to Kano in the early hours of Saturday under full military cover in an attempt to ‘forcefully’ return him to the palace.

Unofficial sources hinted that top security apparatus have been directed to move Muhammadu Sanusi II out of the palace and ensure the ‘immediate’ return of Bayero to the palace.

The presence of heavily armed military personnel and DSS operatives is conspicuously noticeable around the Government House and Nasarawa palace along State Road.

Earlier, the Police Commissioner, Mohammad Usaini Gumel, told journalists at a press briefing that he vowed to uphold the court order that stopped Sanusi’s reinstatement.

One of the emirate title holders, Aminu Babba Dan’Agundi, secured an ex-parte order from Justice A. M. Liman of the Federal High Court, directing the status quo on the repealed emirate law that sacked Bayero and four other emirs in Kano.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has continued to keep vigil at the Emir’s palace alongside the deputy governor and members of his cabinet.

Gov. Yusuf accompanied the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to the palace at 1 am on Saturday, defying the alleged move to return the deposed Bayero to the palace.

The state government has accused APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, of pushing federal might through the office of the National Security Adviser.
