Senate confirms Aminu Yusuf as NPC chairman, to consider Plateau ministerial nominee

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Aminu Yusuf as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC) alongside two commissioners.

The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by Victor Umeh, Senator representing Anambra Central and Chairman of the Committee on National Identity and National Population.

Presenting the report yesterday, Umeh said the nominees were screened by the committee.

“The nominees appeared before the committee for screening on Tuesday, the 14th of October 2025.

“The committee did not receive any criminal complaints on any of the nominees. They are prepared for the job for which they have been nominated,” he said.

He listed the nominees as Aminu Yusuf from Niger State as Chairman; Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State, and Tonga Betara Bularafa from Yobe State as Commissioners.

Relatedly, President Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State to the Senate for confirmation as a minister.

Doro’s nomination comes following the election of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Council, Doro brings over two decades of multidisciplinary experience spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community engagement in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA with a focus on IT-driven business strategy, and a master’s in advanced clinical practice.
