Shettima commends Kano Govt. over scholarship to 100 orphans in Borno
Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Tuesday commended Kano State Government for offering scholarship to 100 orphans in Borno.
Shettima made the commendation when addressed beneficiaries of the scholarship at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Represented by Alhaji Yakubu Bukar, Borno Head of Service, Shettima said that the people of Borno would forever remain grateful for the gesture.
“This singular effort has given not only signs of relief to guardians, caregivers of the orphans but sense of belonging to the people of Borno,’’ Shettima said.
He thanked Kwankwaso for having the people of the Borno in mind at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Shettima, therefore, called on the beneficiaries to exhibit good moral conduct, now that they would be taking to a new place to study.
Also, Hajiya Fanta Shehu, Borno Commissioner for Women Affairs, said that out of the 100 orphans, 73 were selected from the motherless home while 27 were from persons with disabilities.
Shehu said that the students would be enrolled into Orphans Special School from primary, secondary to tertiary level.
She said that the state government had provided the beneficiaries with study materials which include books, text books, uniform and other necessary materials they needed.
