Shettima, ministers in Daura for Buhari’s second-day Fidau prayers

Vice President Kashim Shettima will today (Wednesday) lead a federal delegation to Daura, Katsina State, for the second-day Fidau prayers in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Acting on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima is expected to be joined by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, and several ministers and dignitaries at the late President’s residence, where the prayers will take place.

This comes a day after Buhari was laid to rest in Daura in accordance with Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, a condolence register has been opened at the Admin Wing of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Staff members were seen filing in solemnly to pen tributes in honour of the late former President, who died in London at the age of 82.

Though publicly perceived as austere and reserved, Buhari’s relationship with State House staff was shaped by a commitment to discipline, order, and professional boundaries.

His leadership style demanded reform, integrity, and accountability, qualities that earned him respect, even when his formality was seen as distant.

Yet behind the scenes, multiple accounts from staff and State House correspondents painted a more nuanced picture: one of a leader who could be warm, witty, and unexpectedly approachable.

Several domestic staff and aides spoke of Buhari’s attentiveness to their welfare and his readiness to engage in informal, sometimes humorous exchanges.

While he insisted on clear chains of command, he also valued merit and loyalty, often rewarding diligence with quiet encouragement or acts of kindness.

Reporters covering the presidency also recalled moments of dry humour and camaraderie that surfaced away from the spotlight, small but memorable glimpses into the human side of a man known more for his discipline than his sentiment.

Though some felt the rigid protocols under his watch created a sense of distance, many staff members appreciated his principled style and unwavering expectations, which fostered a sense of order and accountability in the Villa.

As tributes continue to pour in from within and outside the country, Wednesday’s prayers in Daura will serve as a further testament to the enduring imprint Buhari left on those who worked closest to him.
