Soccer fans applaud Eagles in spite of 0-0 drawn game

Some football fans on Saturday in Lagos applauded the performance of the Super Eagles after their 0-0 drawn game against Tanzania in Dar es salam.

Some of the fans who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the newly appointed coach, Sunday Oliseh accomplished his first task in an impressive manner.

Friday Ekpo, a former Eagles’ midfielder said it was a good game but the team still needs to understand themselves.

“I can understand the fact that it is a new team and they just came together, with just a few days training, as compared to their Tanzanian counterparts, who have played together for some time.

“I believe that they can still do better in their next match. The goalkeeper was the man of the match for me.

“The coach should look into the midfield for someone, who will determine the pace of the game and how best to lay good passes to the strikers,” he said.

Amiesimaka Adokiye, a former Green Eagles player said the team was still young; with just a few days ttraining before the game; the draw was good enough.

“I am glad that the first task of Oliseh did not end in a loss. That shows you that we’re improving. This team is young, but it’s growing fast and they are learning fast.

“The boys still need to understand their game and play together, thereby taking their confidence rate higher, so that they can play with ease in their next match.

“I know that it can only get better. The fact that we had a draw, I think it is a good result,” he said.

Another former Eagles player, Bright Omokaro, told NAN that the boys played averagely well, but still need to buck up fast.

“I know Nigerian fans’ expectations were high and good results are all that they expect. The boys need to put more effort in their game and teamwork is key to it.

“Football has gone beyond what it used to be in the past, it is more scientific in approach. Anyway, I see a better team will come out for our next match.

“More unison in play, more coordinated passes and a finisher, who will take the balls into the net; these are few things that the coach should work on before the next game.

“The goalkeeper was brilliant during the match and I give him kudos,’’ he said.

NAN reports that Nigeria have not lost to Tanzania before since their first meeting in 1972, where the Eagles have won four times While their meetings ended in draws.
