Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has criticised Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) flagbearer, for visiting former military president Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna.
On Thursday, Sowore expressed his disapproval of Obi’s meeting with Babangida in a post on X.
“How on earth could someone be returning from paying homage to ex-Nigerian-ruiner, Ibrahim Babangida, and then give his life to save Nigeria? Jokers!” Sowore said.
Meanwhile, Obi described the visit as an opportunity to exchange thoughts on national issues and seek wisdom from Babangida, whom he referred to as a “father figure.”
Sowore, however, viewed the meeting differently, branding Babangida and other former leaders as “ruiners” of the nation.
In 2022, Sowore condemned Obi for consulting with figures like Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging they are his “godfathers.”

He accused the leaders of being “criminals” responsible for Nigeria’s decline and claimed they were unworthy of leadership.
Despite the criticism, Obi said such meetings were crucial for exploring national progress pathways.
