More than 8,500 Africans have been awarded scholarships worth a total of ₦850 million by SQI College of ICT, granting them the opportunity to pursue a wide range of professional ICT courses.
These scholarships were awarded through SQI’s Annual Scholarship Program, which ran from July 5th to early August. This year’s program saw increased reach and impact thanks to the support of key partners, including the Oyo State Government (through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports), SQI Alumni, Edozzier, and others.
The initiative is aimed at expanding access to quality tech education for Africans, especially passionate students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. It was designed to empower promising individuals who might otherwise be unable to afford the upfront costs associated with a tech-focused education.
“This year, we received over 18,000 applications from 35 countries across Africa and beyond. More than 8,000 applicants sat for the scholarship test and have now been selected to study courses such as Software Engineering, Data Science, Data Analysis, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Product Design, and more,” said Mr. Oluwaseyi Odekomaya, Academic Director of SQI College of ICT.
Among the recipients, 16 outstanding candidates were awarded full scholarships, covering 100% of their tuition fees. Thousands more received partial scholarships, significantly lowering their financial burden and allowing them to pay only a small portion of the total cost.
Speaking on Tech Talk, a radio program aired in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Dr. Adegbenro Sunday Ajani, Rector of SQI College of ICT, encouraged the students to seize this unique opportunity:
“This is a rare chance to build a meaningful and rewarding career in tech. Take full advantage of all that SQI has to offer. We look forward to seeing you thrive and join our alumni community with your own success story.”
The next cohort of scholarship recipients will begin training on August 4th, joining a global network of over 100,000 learners enrolled across SQI’s campuses and programs worldwide.
