Staff leadership, innovative skills critical to organisational success

The Principal Consultant of Sixthsense Leadership Consulting, Bright Ukwenga, has said that organisations and its management must ensure that everyone within the organisation has a sense of leadership for the organisation to grow appropriately, stating that if the leader is the only one that is thinking innovatively, the business cannot be sustained.

Speaking on Friday during a Business Leaders Roundtable themed ‘Surviving and Thriving in the Next Decade,’ Ukwenga observed that without effective leadership, even innovation and capital lose momentum.

He noted that leadership is the most important factor of production, saying that leadership brings an enabling effect into play.

He further said there is need to have empathy for leaders including those in business, because sometimes it could quite be a lonely journey for business leaders trying to meet the promises to different stakeholders.

He stated that some entrepreneurs’ commitment is not about making money sometimes but they have continued to carry on despite the challenges because they understand the weight of responsibility.

He further said that it is the reason stakeholders must work to ensure businesses thrive because if the country will grow its economy for shared prosperity, then businesses have to thrive and run well.

Ukwenga listed factors that organisations that want to make an impact in the next decade must take into consideration to include globalisation, demographic shifts, talent mobility, technology advancement, geopolitics and policy shifts.

He also mentioned the seven intelligences the future ready leader must equip himself with. These include analytical intelligence, strategic intelligence, adaptive intelligence.
