Stakeholders advocate passage, assent to anti – corruption bills

Stakeholders in the just-concluded Roundtable On Civil Society Organisations And Media Advocacy On Anti-Corruption Legislations have urged the National Assembly (NASS) to complete all the processes involved in passing all the anti-corruption bills before them.

They also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to any anti-corruption bill before him, if the war against corruption must be won. They also called on legislators to pay attention to the bills pending before them to accelerate the processes of their becoming laws.

The event, held in Abuja, was organised by the European Union (EU), through the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) and the British Council, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may sign into law the Federal Audit Bill, which was passed by NASS last year, with its clean copy sent to the President.The bill, among others, gives the Auditor General an autonomy to operate without dependence on the Federal Ministry of Finance or any other agency.

A State Counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Alhassan Mohammed, said the office of the AGF has cleared the Federal Audit Bill and sent to the President for his assent, disclosing after going through the bill, the AGF noted the importance to Nigerians in need of quick dispensation of financial and auditing issues.
