Stakeholders have called for improved women’s inclusion in decision-making processes for their economic empowerment, peace and security.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ElectHER, Ibijoke Faborode, who made the appeal at the Hersummit2023, organised by HerNetwork, with the theme, ‘Moving Her Forward’, observed that beyond having women in politics, the nation needed them in arriving at decisions.
On the nation and others in policy-making, she submitted: “Nigeria has so many policies that are lovely on paper. We have some of the most fantastic policies on paper, but when it comes to the legal framework, we are lacking. When you do not make something legal, people do not think it is the law.”
She observed that there would be improvement in the legal system if policies are fairly implemented, regardless of social status.
Faborode also harped on sensitising the public on existing laws and their rights.
Senior Editor for Africa, CNN, Stephanie Busari, highlighted the significance of the gender’s involvement in politicking, noting: “During the pandemic, countries that successfully led the control of their countries were all led by women.”
Bringing to light the areas of uneven participation, CEO, Brila Media, Debbie Larry-Izamoje, asserted that the Nigerian women sports team lacked representation.
She stated: “When women do not make decisions in female football, it goes around and affects us. We need women behind the scenes in Nigerian sports.”
