‘Students learn better when they see, touch’

Vice Principal of Ajayi Dahunsi Memorial Baptist School, Ilasamaja Lagos, Gladys Onyegbule, has stressed the need to expose students to different activities outside the classroom.

She made the call on Wednesday when she led over 40 students of the school and four teachers to The Guardian corporate head-office for an educational tour.

According to her, “students learn better when they see and touch what they are taught in the classroom. It is really a wonderful experience bringing the students to The Guardian. We have been getting a lot of information through the media and we decided that it would be better to know the stages and process of producing a newspaper.

One of the teachers, Adebayo Leke, said: “The importance of the visit is to learn what we didn’t know. Now, we will be able to explain better how the print media operates, the importance and the necessity of the media in the society. We can see that with The Guardian’s ability to delve into other platforms of disseminating information and its commitment to telling undiluted stories as second to none, through the new Guardian TV, confirms the paper as leader among other print media.

However, some of the students expressed their fear of being a journalist, calling the profession famous but risky with non-attractive pay.
