Abiodun, others advocate partnership with polytechnics for technology development
A former Managing Director of Shell Companies and Chancellor of Macpherson University, Mutiu Sunmonu, and General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Revd. Sam Aboyeji, have harped on the need for a strong public, private partnership to develop the education system in Nigeria.
Sunmonu, particularly, expressed concern over the falling standard of education, saying that the standard today is far below what it used to be during and post-colonial period.
The duo, who spoke during the joint eighth and ninth convocation ceremony of Macpherson University in Ogun State, urged various strata of governments to take a holistic look at the education system in Nigeria with a determination to enter into strong partnerships with private institutions to develop it.
Sunmonu said that failure to do this might be inimical to the growth, development and future of not only the country but also the current generations.
Aboyeji, in his remarks, said the church established the university to complement the government’s efforts at providing education to the citizens.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Francis Igbasan, said that the institution for the year 2023/2024 academic session had graduated 281 students.
He also said that the university had secured full accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) for 11 undergraduate programmes.
RELATEDLY, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and a philanthropist, Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, yesterday, called on well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the government in uplifting polytechnic education for better technological advancement.
The duo gave the charge while speaking during the convocation ceremony of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council of the state, where the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, unveiled self-made electric cars and drones as part of the innovations and breakthroughs produced by the engineering department of the institution.
