Glo Premier League star striker Tunde Adeniji on Thursday scored twice as the Super Eagles defeated Amakson Academy of Abuja 3-0 in a practice match at the Abuja National Stadium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that match is part of the Eagles’ preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.

The AFCON qualifier’s first leg encounter is slated for Sept. 5 in Dar es Salaam.

Adeniji who plays for Sunshine Stars FC of Akure got the brace in the first half of the match, before Godwin Obaje made it 3-0 few minutes to the end of the game.

The striker later told NAN in an interview that he was optimistic of making the team’s final list for the Dar es Salaam game.

He said the goal scoring form which had seen him score 13 goals so far in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) would be replicated in the national team.

“I will not say that I will score a particular number of goals, but my belief is that I am going to break the goal scoring record set by my colleagues in the league.

“Everybody’s aim in the national team is to ensure the country wins all its matches and this is what we have resolved to do to ensure we qualify for the 2017 AFCON,’’ Adeniji said.

Super Eagles Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye, also told NAN that the match against Amakson was one of the several tune-up matches lined up for the team as they prepare for Tanzania.

Nigeria and Tanzania are in Group G of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers alongside Egypt and Chad.
