Suspected cult members kill two, injure others in Benue


Benue ClashGUNMEN suspected to be cultists Saturday night went on rampage shooting sporadically and killing two (2) persons even as several others were left with bullets wounds at different locations in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

The Guardian investigation revealed that the gunmen driving in a Toyota Corolla Car popularly called ‘Dog Nyash’ began their shooting spree in Welfare Quarters settlement killing two persons in the area, namely Donald Kaaungwa and Mr. Myom Usha, while one Fred Was said to be shot in the leg and is receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Apir.

In the same night, the suspected gunmen were said to have shot and killed one Aondofa Amokaha at Balcony Wine Bar and Restaurant and injured one Frank Iyorkyaa as well as an Indian, the Regional Fiber Head of Glo, Neggi Vikrhim, who are said to be receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, Makurdi.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), Mathew Oku said he is only aware of two persons shot dead at the Welfare Quarters, saying their remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Oku, who warned criminals in the state to have a change of heart of seeking haven in other places warned that the newly-posted Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi, a no nonsense Police Officer, would not condone any acts of criminality in the state.

He maintained that the police was already on the trail and had arrested one of the gunmen, assured that the police will soon round up all of them and would be made to face the wrath of the law as soon as they are apprehended.

It was also gathered that a staff of one of the Eateries in Makurdi metropolis was attacked with machete and his Laptop as well as handset taken away at gunpoint.

A resident of Welfare Quarters, who spoke to The Guardian on the ground of anonymity said he suspected the attackers to be cultists on reprisal mission against the youths in the area who had in recent times launched a raid on the cult members and had in the process, killed one of their leader in the area.
