Taraba State Campaign Council of the Labour Party (LP) has affirmed that its governorship candidate, Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya, will appeal judgment of the Federal High Court, Jalingo, which invalidated his nomination for the March 11,2023 election.
It noted that the move was to seek redress of “the obvious miscarriage of justice.”
The court, last Saturday, nullified Ikenya’s emergence as the party’s flag-bearer. The campaign council, in a statement issued yesterday by Director, Media and Publicity, Kefas Sule, restated that the party had resolved to explore more legal options to get justice.
Referencing the October 25, 2022 ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja that returned Ikenya as standard-bearer by virtue of his winning the August 18,2022 gubernatorial primary of LP, the council stressed that the prospective applicant “is not a senatorial candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as claimed by the court,” urging further confirmation from portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While wondering about the fresh ruling, the campaign council advised party members to remain calm and hopeful.
