Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday said that the need to employ Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovations have become necessary, following the situation whereby Nigeria has become a consumer nation with its numerous natural resources.

Onu, said at the meeting of the National Council with states’ commissioners in charge of Science and Technology held in Abuja on Monday that other countries, which lack these abundant natural resources have utilized science, technology, engineering and innovations to make the lives of their people better.

According to Onu the lack of science and technology-based practice in Nigeria has made the economy vulnerable and continuously put pressure on the currency, making it weaker and weaker.

He said: “Many countries that lack abundant natural resources have employed technology to become some of the largest economies in the world. Can we imagine how developed Nigeria would be, if we can effectively deploy science, technology, engineering and innovation in the efficient exploitation of our abundant natural resources?
