Virtually Safe, an initiative of Teens Can Code in partnership with She Writes Woman, a leading mental health organization launches Cyber360 help line, a digital-wellbeing support toll free number for young internet users in Nigeria.

This support line provides internet users with professional advice from dedicated experts for all situations young people face in the digital world.

Today’s young people are growing up in a world where technology has always been present for them, the internet and social media can have a very positive impact on young people’s lives.

For many it reduces isolation, increases connection, for some it is an outlet for creativity, However, not all online experiences are positive for young people, and this can have a negative impact on how they feel about themselves, their friendships and relationships and even how they see the wider world.

Teens Can Code founder, Damian Isaac Ezirim says “As an organization helping to expand access to technology education, we are keen on the quality of life and the digital wellbeing of the young people we expose to technology.

“How the internet and technology can make us feel, the impact being online can have on our emotions, mental, physical health and wellbeing. It’s important that young people know who they can turn to for support by contacting a helpline 0800 800 2000.”

The Cyber360 Helpline is an expansion of the service that is already provided by She Writes Woman, Teens Can Code is partnering with them to ensure their service reaches young people especially at a time when young people are spending more and more of their lives online, with 12-18 year olds now spending over 15hours weekly online both for educational purposes and their social lives.

Speaking about the digital wellbeing support line, the Founder of She Writes Woman, Hauwa Ojeifo says “Teenagers spend more time on the internet like no other time in history. The level of hyperexposure and hyperawareness means that they are more likely to encounter cyber threats including threats to their mental and emotional development, most of which they are unaware is taking place in the moment. This initiative creates an opportunity for teenagers to have a free, confidential and accessible line to unburden the challenges that might be of concern to them.”
