Terrorists kill residents, injure others in Katsina
Several persons were feared dead while scores were injured, following an attack by terrorists at Mji community, in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State.
The terrorists were said to have ambushed some vigilance group members at about 5.30p.m., on Thursday. It was gathered that the terrorists had succeeded in rustling unspecified number of cattle from neighbouring Bakori Local Council, and were moving them through Mji community when the incident occurred.
A source said on learning about the rustling, vigilance group members from Bakori gathered themselves and pursued the terrorists on motorcycles.
And before they could reach the terrorists, information had reached the terrorists the vigilantes were coming after them.
“The terrorists then invited some of their members, who were close to the community, and they quickly assembled and set an ambush for the vigilantes.
“The terrorists opened fire on them. Many were killed while several others got injured.”
Another source, however, said that “more than 30 people were killed”, while hundreds were injured during the incident.
While confirming the incident, spokesperson for the police command in the state, SP Gambo Isah, said the command did not have enough information on the casualty figure.
Isah said the Kankara Area Commander had gone to the community to get details on the incident, adding that same would be made public in due course.
