NELFUND

The senior special assistant to the President on community engagement (South East) Mrs. Chioma Nweze weekend advised students from the Southeast to key into the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) by applying for the loan to enable them to cushion the effects of economic hardships in the country.

Nweze made this known while addressing a mammoth crowd of students during the maiden Southeast citizen’s engagement at Ebonyi State University Abakaliki.

Nweze visited the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and the University of Nigeria Enugu campus (UNEC) to enlighten students of the Southeast region on the need to apply for student loans and other opportunities available to the academic community.

“It’s essential to note that these policies are still unfolding, and their effectiveness will manifest in fullness of time,” Nweze said.

The managing director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sanyerr said that every student will get the opportunity to access this loan stressing that he will fail in his job if it only goes to one set of people and not to everybody.

The vice chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, however, applauded President Bola Tinubu for approving the student loan to reduce the rate at which students drop out from school.

Also, the vice-chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu said: “This visit will motivate our students to participate in this programme. You know that universities in Nigeria will always have their list of problems because of the economy. And this loan will help our students to solve their financial problems.”
