The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its achievements in environmental sustainability, which is creating substantial jobs.
The association stated this while marking the World Environment Day 2025.
AWAMN’s National President, Dr. Olugbenga Adebola, noted that the commendation transcends politics, but focuses squarely on the administration’s performance, strategic vision, and the assurances of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adebola recalled Tinubu’s pioneering efforts in waste management during his time as Lagos state governor.
He specifically pointed to the “pro-poor home-grown waste management model tagged the PSP”, which revolutionised house-to-house waste collection and eliminated mountains of waste from the cityscape.
This innovative model, he noted, became a blueprint adopted by nearly 30 Nigerian states and attracted study tours from numerous other African countries.
“AWAMN, a professional body representing over 2,000 waste management enterprises and practitioners, proudly identifies this as a sustainable legacy of Asiwaju. The association’s member companies have collectively created over one million direct and indirect employment opportunities, underscoring the significant economic impact of effective waste management,” Adebola said.
Adebola then detailed a comprehensive list of the Tinubu administration’s environmental achievements over the past two years, demonstrating a clear commitment to fostering a green industrial revolution.
“Cleantech Innovation Policy: Nigeria’s first, projected to create over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs in green sectors.
“Sustainable Energy Access Project (SEAP): A nationwide clean energy and cooking initiative aiming for nearly one million jobs.
”Circular Economy Initiatives: Including cassava value chain development for agro-waste to energy conversion, the establishment of a €7.9 billion Green and Blue Methanol Industrial Complex, and new National Waste Management and Plastic Waste Management Policies anticipated to generate over five million direct and indirect jobs.
“International Cooperation: President Tinubu’s active participation and leadership in global environmental forums like COP 28, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, and the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, emphasising global collaboration and Nigeria’s green energy transition.”
