The incident sent shocks down the spine of traders, who had converged in the market for trading and caused severe traffic on the axis for hours.
The Guardian learnt that the truck was coming from a warehouse opposite the market before it rammed into the market at about 10:00a.m., when the traders were trooping into the market.
The trailer hit the white colour Range Rover SUV with registration Abuja ABC-597-TP and left the aged woman, who was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, badly injured.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were mobilised to the scene to manage the situation.
Eyewitnesses told The Guardian that the truck driver took to his heels immediately the incident happened.
A first respondent, Abayomi Fagunro, said: “I was around the Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) when the incident happened. I ran towards the area and saw a woman under the trailer. I thought she was dead, but I heard her voice. I started removing stones around her and other people joined me.”
The driver of the SUV told The Guardian he was grateful to have escaped from the incident and that he was waiting for the owner of the truck.
