OGUN State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday, for the second time struck out two applications seeking to dismiss the petition brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and it’s candidate in the April 11 governorship election, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka.

The two applications were brought separately by the 1st Respondent (Governor Ibikunle Amosun) and 2nd Respondent (the All Progressives Congress).

Isiaka had gone to the tribunal to challenge the results of nine out of the 20 local councils. Joined in the suit, are Amosun’s party, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chairman of the three-man tribunal, Justice Henry Olusiyi, said the applications were abuse of court processes and unnecessary waste of time of the tribunal.

The applications were brought pursuant to section 6 and section 36 (6) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and paragraphs 18 (1) – (4), 47 (1) and 53 (5) of the first schedule to the Electoral Act, 2010
