Nigerian firm petitions FG over unpaid ₦9m rent by Uganda High Commission

A Ngerian real estate company, Chennard Apartments, has petitioned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting intervention over unpaid rent owed by the Uganda High Commission in Abuja.

In a letter dated July 22, the property manager, Ms. Uchie Okolie, stated that the diplomatic mission had defaulted on six months of rent amounting to ₦9 million (approximately Shs20.9 million).

According to the petition, the Commission rented a furnished four-bedroom apartment in April 2024 for a one-year period but has not paid rent since April 1, 2025.

“In April 2024, the Uganda High Commission rented a furnished four-bedroom apartment for one year. Since April 1, 2025, they have refused to pay rent covering April to September, totalling N9 million,” the letter reads.

The petition has also been forwarded to Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the Nigerian High Commission in Kampala.
