Umahi endorses Nwifuru for second term as Ebonyi governor

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence in Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, declaring his tenure as divinely ordained for eight years.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, said this when he led former members of his administration to pay a Christmas homage to the Nwifuru on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Umahi’s media aide Francis Nwaze, in a statement, said the minister expressed delight to visit the governor and promised to continue to visit for the next six and a half years.

“The spirit of God has asked me to declare that your tenure is for eight years. Even if you were a bad person, there is no replacement for you in Izzi land,” Umahi said.

The minister dismissed any suggestion of personal financial interest in his endorsement of his successor.

“Is it money I want? I don’t need money. I am not a money person. If I were, we wouldn’t have developed the state. The way you honor me before my enemies is more than enough,” Umahi said.

“That’s why I’m openly declaring the secret of your second tenure ahead of everyone. You will not spend a single kobo for your re-election.”

He commended Nwifuru for his contributions to the successes of his administration, emphasising their shared achievements.

Predicting a seamless re-election for Nwifuru, he said, “We have declared fully that you will have your eight years intact. Your re-election will be the smoothest.”

Umahi applauded the governor’s efforts to reconcile with former opponents for the state’s peace but reiterated his readiness to confront challenges if necessary.
