THE University of Port Harcourt held the first Rex Jim Lawson International Highlife Music Conference and Festival recently – in keeping with its “Rex Lawson Chair in Music.” In addition to live performances by several groups including the Rex Lawson Memorial Band, renowned professors and scholars from Nigeria, Ghana and the United States of America (USA) delivered papers (with the theme, Highlife In West Africa: Retrospect and Prospects).
