Voting commenced four hours ahead of the scheduled time of 1pm in some polling units in Bauchi metropolis, due to low turnout of voters in those units.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at the Elduniya polling unit in Bayangari area of Bauchi, voting commenced at 9am.

INEC Presiding Officer at the unit, Mr Abba John, told NAN that the unit had 581 voters in its register, but that as at 9am, only 57 people had reported for accreditation.

He said that the few accredited voted remained idle, as such the party agents consented to their being allowed to cast their votes and leave.

The APC and PDP agents at the unit, Musa Liman and Onyeka Okeke, told NAN that they supported the arrangement.

The Presiding Officer and the agents lamented the low turnout of voters in the area.

At Dan’iya and Kito Hotel polling units in Bayangari, the situation was the same, as such voting commenced at about 10am and 11am respectively.
