Unknown gunmen kill chairman of Miyeti Allah in Kogi
Unknown gunmen, yesterday, killed the Kogi State chairman of Miyeti Allah, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakah, at about 2.05am.The operation, which lasted for about 60 minutes, occurred at Road 3 of Peace Community, along Ganaja-Ajaokuta Road, Lokoja.
According to residents, the incident, which sent jitters down their spines saw hoodlums numbering about eight, storming the neighbourhood in commando style, beating a network of police intelligence operatives, from the C Division Lokoja, to gain access to the deceased residence.
A neighbour of the deceased, who identified himself as Musa, said before the incident, he noticed some strange faces in the vicinity, though he never suspected any sinister motive.
Musa said the deceased body was riddled with bullet wounds and matchete cuts, after the assailants gained access to one of his wives rooms, after forcing the door open.
A neighbour, and doctor attached to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja Dr. Sam Alhassan, who confirmed Abubakah dead, recounted what transpired in the early hours of Saturday.
“After I started hearing gunshots, I sneaked towards my window to view what was wrong. There, I sighted a group of bandits in two lines. At least I saw eight people, and they started shooting sporadically. The next thing that I saw was that a bullet hit the overhead tank and water started gushing out of the tank,” Alhassan said.
He said shortly after that, the wife of the deceased came out screaming that her husband had been killed.The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) William Aya, confirmed the incident and said efforts were ongoing to track down the killers.
Abubakah has been buried according to Islamic rites.
