WAEC denies awarding Anambra as best best-performing state in 2023 WASSCE
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disassociated itself from a social media report claiming that Abia State has been rated as the best-performing state in Nigeria’s WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023.
WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adesina, in a statement on Thursday, said that the publication is “far from the truth” and that the council does not rank the performance of states in its examinations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the West African Examinations Council does not rank the performance of states in its examination. This is what we have always stated,” Adesina stated.
Adesina also warned the public to disregard any media circulating the wrong information, describing them as “mischievous platforms that trend on controversies, and their intention is purely political.
“They are trying unsuccessfully to drag the Council into the political arena and bring its good name to disrepute with the intention to cause disharmony among the states competing for superiority.”
WAEC also noted that it has not decided on the best candidate(s) for WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023, and that any report to the contrary should be disregarded.
The Council, however, urged the general public to be wary of such misinformation.
