Xpensive EMG: From ‘studio rat’ to record label owner

Xpensive EMG, fondly called “Expensive” was born Ekene Nweke. The Ebonyi state indigene is a grown voice to reckon with in the Nigerian music industry. Shockingly, He is record label owner and front line artist of EMG ENTERTAINMENT.

The music industry is evolving more quickly than it ever has, and the growth of social media and new streaming technology has given independent musicians more opportunities to define their own standards and create their own spaces.

The breakout performing artiste, who sings and also produces, was born in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, His first piece which trended in the music market, “Coni Man’” in 2017 was followed by the swift release of appropriate visuals. It attained numbers on YouTube and hundreds of streams on digital music service providers. He has been able to carve out a niche for himself by fusing melodies with vibrant beats thanks to his energetic personality, visual style, and delivery.

Xpensive EMG progressed from an underground artiste to a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry. He quickly followed ‘Coni Man’ with the release of another hit single, Titled “Confirm It” featuring Solidstar, launching a streak of successful release turned anthem. The collaborative work defined Xpensive EMG in new lights and showed that he is always in tune with his craft to deliver fresh sounds.

“I grew up listening Afro pop. During my secondary school days. I loved choreography and I used be the lead singer during our closing ceremony. I have always been passionate about my music life, I even attend local shows in various neighborhoods and carnivals until I professionally kick started my music brand”, the self-made artist narrates.

“For years, I was a studio rat. This meant that I had to move from one studio to the other just to create a unique sound, this was a rave I started when I turned 18. I felt the dire need to make music that can melt hearts, mend hearts and would be accepted by the society,” he stated
The talented singer have a unique talent for hearing how rhythms and melodic parts could blend into a perfect song. One of his best works to date tracks like “Ginger and confirm it ” contains the right blend of beats, rhythms, vocals, and lyrics. The musical flow will break up the routine of regular music by bringing listeners to experience the African sound.

“My sound slowly evolved into tracks like “Ginger and confirm it “, a song that bridges my older sound and where I am at now. The love and support and views from ‘Confirm it’ on YouTube also really helped me find my sound because I was downloading a ton of new music every week. Using these influences I began to create music I really enjoyed, which can also be characterized” he concludes.
