Yusuf assents to bill creating Kano security outfit

Traders urge friendly economy, competition
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf yesterday, assented to the law establishing Kano Security Neighborhood Watch Corps to strengthen community policing in the state. He also signed into law, the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025.
Signing the bills during the State Executive Council meeting, the governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy and fostering rapid socio-economic development of the state.
Yusuf emphasised that the government remains steadfast in its efforts to initiate and implement policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the citizens.He lauded the support and cooperation of the people, urging them to sustain the momentum to achieve the administration’s set goals.
MEANWHILE, the Singer Market Development Association, Kano has appealed to the Federal Government to liberalise the participation of companies in the food industry to encourage competitiveness in Nigerian markets.
Besides, the body, one of the largest grocery markets in Northern Nigeria, urged Dangote and BUA companies to consider slashing the prices of sugar.
Dangote and Bua are the two major giants that enjoy the monopoly of refining and sales of Sugar locally and export to African countries.
Addressing journalists on prices of essential commodities in the market ahead of the Ramadan fast, the chairman of the association, Junaidu Muhammed Zakari, noted that enabling more players in the food industry would crash prices of food items in the land.
He said prices of essential commodities like rice, flour, milk, beans and pasta have significantly dropped in Kano, following the Federal Government’s waiver of tax on some food items.
