NIEEE harps on implementation of CIEEEN Act

…applauds Dangote for refinery
The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Epe /Ibeju Lekki chapter, has emphasised the implementation of The Chartered Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Nigeria (CIEEEN) Act, signed by the former President, Muhammadu Buhari in April, 2023.

Chapter chairman, NIEEE, Engr. Dr. Olusegun Sholiyi, applauded Founder, Dangote Group,¹ Aliko Dangote for his progress with the refinery, saying that the refinery helps place Nigeria as the giant of Africa.

He said this during a technical industrial visit to the newly commissioned 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP).

He stated that the high level of technology and engineering at the petrochemical company is highly inspiring; saying with the successful completion of this project, Alhaji Dangote has been able to place Nigeria in the global history of oil refinery and petrochemical technologies.

Dr. Sholiyi who is also the Director, National Space Research and Development Agency, (NASRDA)’s Centre for Space Transport and Propulsion, Epe in Lagos State, explained that the refinery will not only generate employment for teaming Nigerian youths but, will drastically reduce the need for the importation of petroleum products that will aid foreign exchange valuation and improve the balance of trade for the country.

He mentioned that one of the cardinal reasons for their visit was to develop a professional working relationship between NIEEE and Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, as well as embark on membership drive for the Institute.

Explaining the project, Director of Construction, Dangote Group, SN Eachampti, said the refinery is sitting on 2,635 Hectares of land which was reclaimed from swamp. During the reclamation, about 65 million cubic meters of sand was pumped into the site to raise the level to about 3 meters above sea level. This was then followed by piling of 150, 000 piles driven into the ground, 3 million cubic meters of concrete was consumed by the project.

“The refinery is equipped with installed truck loading capacity of Ninety-six (96) meter runs (96 Flow meters) which can accommodate both the single and double loading of tankers. The loading bays can load up to one hundred and twenty-three (123) trucks per hour, two thousand four hundred and fifteen (2415) trucks per day across two (2) 10-hour shifts.

“A total of approximately 458 Mega Watts (MW) power generating systems were installed to cater for the refinery local consumption,” he said.

The technical visit by NIEEE members was the first industrial professional visit embarked upon by any engineering professional body after the commissioning.

Senior General Manager, Human Asset Management, Mr. Femi Adekunle; Assistant General Manager, Training and Development & Stakeholder Relationship, Dr. Oputa Ebele and other staff representatives of Electrical, Instrumentation Operations, Maintenance team, and Information Technology team, were present during the courtesy visit.
