Niger State, CBM Developments join forces to boost agriculture in 50,000-hectare irrigation project

The Niger State government and CBM Developments have signed a groundbreaking agreement, “The Niger Irrigation Infrastructure Advancement Scheme,” aimed at significantly enhancing irrigation across 50,000 hectares of land. This ambitious project promises to revolutionize agriculture in the state, bolstering food security and economic prosperity.


Renowned irrigation specialist CBM Developments, led by Chairman Telia J. Urey, partnered with the Alkhorayef Group from Saudi Arabia on this project. The official signing ceremony, witnessed by Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, saw Mr. Sammy Adigun, Executive Chairman of Niger Foods (the state’s agricultural development vehicle), sign alongside Urey.

Funding for the project is secured through a collaboration between the Saudi EXIM Bank and Nexim Bank of Nigeria, highlighting the commitment of both nations to this transformative initiative.

According to a statement made available to The Guardian, the project aims to significantly expand the area under irrigation, leading to increased crop yields and overall agricultural production. It also seeks increased agricultural output and is expected to generate significant economic activity, create jobs and improve livelihoods for the people of Niger State.

By leveraging CBM Developments’ expertise and securing necessary funding, the project has the potential to unlock the state’s agricultural potential, contribute to food security, and drive economic growth and prosperity for its residents.
