Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche joins Getafe

Spanish LaLiga club Getafe have announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche from third division side AD Ceuta.

Getafe, who announced the signing in a statement on their website, revealed that Uche signed a four-year deal.

“Getafe CF and AD Ceuta FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Christantus Uche,” Getafe said.

“The 21-year-old Nigerian footballer has signed with the club until 30 June 2028 and will spend the next four seasons in the blue and white jersey.

“Uche arrived in Spain in the summer of 2022, where after a season with Moralo CP, he signed for the Ceuta outfit. In the current campaign, he has competed in Primera Federación, playing a total of 34 regular league matches and two in the playoff for promotion to the Second Division.”


Uche expressed his gratitude to his coaches and teammates for their support during his time at AD Ceuta.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my coaches and colleagues for their unwavering support and guidance throughout my journey,” Uche wrote on his Instagram account.

“I also want to thank the fans for their constant encouragement and love. It has been an incredible experience and I will cherish the memories forever.

“Farewell, my dear coaches, colleagues, and fans. forever ceuta.” he shared on Instagram.


Uche has now followed in the footsteps of former Super Eagles Ikechukwu Uche and Oghenekaro Etebo as Nigerians who have featured for Getafe.

Etebo joined Getafe on loan from Stoke City in January 2020 while Ikechukwu was at the club from 2007 to 2009.

In the just concluded 2023-24 La Liga season, Getafe finished in 12th place on 43 points.

Getafe was promoted to La Liga for the first time in 2004 and participated in the top level of Spanish football for twelve years between 2004 and 2016, and again since 2017.

The club have never won any major trophy and were Spanish Cup runners-up twice in 2007 and 2008.
