Five men have been arrested in Ekiti state for kidnapping less than after schoolchildren were snatched from a school by kidnappers on their way to school

Six students, three teachers, and a bus driver from a private school on Monday.

Gunmen in southwestern Ekiti State shot the bus’s tyres and took the children captive on their way home from school on Monday afternoon, co-founder Gabriel Adesanya told AFP.

Adesanya said the students, ages eight to fourteen, as well as the bus driver, conductor, and two teachers, were still missing.

The police said that the suspected kidnappers were arrested in a joint operation involving the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), and local hunters.

However, it is still unclear if they participated in the Monday kidnapping.

According to the police, suspects claimed to be herdsmen during interrogation. But it was later discovered that none of them had cattle and no cattle were found with them in the forest where they were arrested.

The suspects were identified as Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Isah Abdullahi, and Suleiman Abdullahi.

The items recovered from the suspects during their apprehension were two motorcycles, a cutlass, a jack knife/dagger, and four mobile phones. These items are believed to be connected to their alleged criminal activities.
