‘Nigerians must come together to serve humanity’

Ejezie

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Ifeyinwa Ejezie, has said that service to humanity has been the focus of her administration, stressing that Nigerians need to come together in the service to humanity .

According to her, Nigerians should work together to better the society through provision of social amenities to individuals and communities, while impacting the environment positively.

She said:”This year is a blast. It has been so vibrant filled up with so many activities that are too numerous to mention. I have been everywhere, in this Rotary year and I have had the benefit of appreciating the magnanimity of what Rotary does in our society and I cannot say it all in one goal. This is the benefit I have derived from this Rotary year.”

My eyes have been opened to so many things. I have come to appreciate Rotary the more.”

She recalled that the theme of the Rotary year 2023-2024 is Creating Hope in the World. “That is all that we have done by creating hope everywhere. We have created hope in the area of Basic Education and Literacy in Maternal and Child Health. “

We created hope in Economic Empowerment. We have created hope in mental health which is a major challenge now within the economy. We keep creating hope everywhere and we have our seven areas of focus.”

She recalled that they had a sport festival for the first time in the life of the district. “We had a sport festival as part of our mental health activities. Because we Rotarians are stressed, we do a lot of things going round the community.  But when the challenge came for mental health we felt that what better ways can we use to engage?

“We held a programme called Rotary Youth Leadership Academy(RYLA) where we brought over 1000 youths together and trained them on leadership and vocational training and also spoke to them on drug abuse.

“We also had an international Webna where people spoke on mental health and its benefits. We have done a lot of things on mental health for this Rotary year and it will continue. The incoming governor will continue from where we have stopped.”

She recalled that for the Rotary Sports Festival, they partnered with Brilla FM, and Ikoyi Club 1938.

“We were there to play golf ànd Brilla FM covered everything. We played novelty march. We had all kinds of recreational sports like Scrabble and all that. We played lawn Tennis and people emerged as winners. Companies partnered with us. They gave us gifts and we gave out certificates to people that emerged as winners.

“That sport became a hit. Right now I have people from Ogun State Sport Commission and all that coming and writing that they want to partner with Rotary,” she said.
