Nigerians Reacts To President Tinubu’s Democracy Day Speech

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered his much anticipated democracy day speech. This is the norm, on each June 12, every year.


But many Nigerians are already reacting in different ways, while some are not having it at all, some are hopeful that things will get better.

Many of the reactions have been channelled towards the harsh economy and the uncertainty that surrounds the minimum wage.

The President touched on many angles in his speech, while talking about the minimum wage, which has been trending for a while now, he also talked about the economy which needs total reform.

Some of these reactions have been captured below.

What are Nigerians saying?

One social media user, @Omo9ja requested that there should be videos to show, and for record purposes too. ‘Please also be including full videos of any PBAT speech or statement, It will serve archival purposes” he said.

Another “X” user, @Ahmed focused more on the current economy, he said, “When the president Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidy, we have been plunged into even greater hardship and hunger, the price of fuel, food, transport, electricity and other basic amenities have gone up beyond what average Nigerians can afford”

Focusing more on the uncertainty that surrounds the minimum wage, @Judeokeowo said, “Please sit to the implementation of the minimum wage and reduce cost of your government, we are hungry”

More reactions 

Meanwhile, a man who alleged to be an NPOWER recipient, by the name @okesholatemitope said, “Happy democracy day our dear president. Please Sir, consider paying our 8 months Npower money. Thanks in anticipation”

While @adebayo wishes the cabinet and the president well, “Happy Democracy Day to us All.May God Almighty continue to grant you and your Cabinets the Wisdom to lead us.Amen.Congrat Sir”

@edidiongasuquo questioned the president’s speech after one year of assumptions of office. “1 year after assumption of office, it is now time to build a nation . What has he been doing since I wonder”

@spicygreen said, “Democracy has brought Nigerians nothing but tears and agony, there’s nothing happy about it, leaders are after social status and their pockets than moving the country to the next level. We have always lacked transformational leaders and still do till tomorrow”

“Happy Democracy Day to the most craziest and kindest nation in the world, Nigeria. God bless the Leadership Team and God bless Nigeria and Love Love for all @ecowas_cedeao nationals,” @demogazil wrote.

@stvreel said, “God bless the president and the federal republic of nigeria……pls consider the supperingnof the masses….250k minimum wage is doable while we hope that cost of governance will be reduced to the lowest minimum…Nigeria will work wen we choose”

The reactions continue to pour in their numbers, as many Nigerians feel unsatisfied by the current situation of things.
