A LAGOS based businessman, Chief Godwin Njubigbo Amb, JP, has been nominated by the people of Aboji Akanano in Oba town, Idemili South Local Council of Anambra State, to contest for the vacant Igweship stool of Oba town.

Njubigbo, who is the current Ezedioramma Eze Ndigbo in Yaba/Mainland axis of Lagos State, will face contestants from other villages in the election being organised by Oba Town Union to elect a new traditional ruler following the death of the former occupant of the stool, His Royal Majesty, Igwe P.C Ezenwa, Eze Okpoko I of Oba.

Presenting Njubigbo to journalists in Oba, the President General of Aboji Akanano village, Nze Dozie Nweke, stated that each of the nine villages in Oba except one is expected to field a candidate for the election, saying Njubigbo has been chosen by his village for the contest.

Nweke explained that three people had indicated interest to stand for Aboji in the Igweship race namely; Chief Sunday Agulefo, Chief Njubigbo and Nze Lawrence Muonwe, who is based in United States.

According to him, Muonwe withdrew from the contest along the line leaving the contest at the village level for Agulefo and Njubigbo, who eventually won.
Speaking on the candidacy of Njubigbo, Nweke said that Oba would be well pleased in him if elected because he has what it takes to serve the town creditably. He noted that as the Eze Ndigbo of Yaba/MainLand axis in Lagos, Njubigbo has acquired a lot experience both in business and in leadership.

In his remarks, Njubigbo thanked the people of Aboji for giving him the opportunity to test his popularity in Oba, promising to use his experience in leadership to build on the legacies of the late Eze Okpoko I if elected.

He added: “The legacies of Eze Okpoko are known to be ensuring security, peace and development in Oba and that is what I am coming to do. I will follow the footsteps of Eze Okpoko I in carrying all the villages along and ensure that the name of Oba remains attractive and respectable to the outside world.”
