The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has announced that its $4.3 billion Train 7 project has reached 67 per cent completion.
The project is aimed at expanding the country’s LNG production capacity.
In a statement by the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Andy Odeh, the company emphasised that the project is crucial for monetising Nigeria’s vast gas resources, estimated at over 200 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of proven reserves.
The organisation added that the project serves as an inspiration for other gas development initiatives geared at enhancing gas monetisation and utilisation in the country.
The Train 7 project is anticipated to increase NLNG’s production capacity by 35 per cent, from 22 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa, thereby enhancing the company’s competitiveness in the global market.
The company underscored the project’s significance to the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, emphasizing that it aligns with Nigeria’s gas development aspirations. The outlined initiative is both timely and essential for securing the nation’s future, especially as the global movement towards a net-zero future accelerates.
However, the company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering economic benefits through the Train 7 project on Bonny Island.
NLNG stated that the Train 7 project is a strategic initiative aimed at supporting the diversification of the country’s revenue sources, generating revenue during the Energy Transition, and helping Nigeria achieve a net-zero future.
