Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, two major contenders for Nasarawa State governorship position have stepped down for Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is seeking re-election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
This followed the visit of Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar II, to Lafia recently.
The Sultan had led a powerful delegation to Lafia to appeal to Muslim contenders in the governorship race to step down for the incumbent APC-led administration.
Represented by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, the Sultan urged the SDP candidate, Mohammed Alfa-Nyass; and his NNPP counterpart, Abdullahi Maidoya to step down for Sule in Saturday’s governorship election.
Following the Sultan’s interface, the NNPP and SDP, at the joint press briefing in Lafia, yesterday, stepped down for “a party that would be announced in later date.”
In another development, Sen. Tanko Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa South) has called on APC supporters in the state to re-elect Sule in Saturday’s ballot.
The senator called on the party to unite ahead of the Saturday’s vote to ensure victory.
Governor Sule pointed out that when the result of poll conducted ahead of the presidential election prediction that Obi of the LP would win Nasarawa, he under-rated it and it happened exactly as predicted.
He added: “Again, there is another prediction that Nasarawa governorship election is between APC and PDP. We need to unite and work hard if we must win.”
