No monopoly of ideas; Sanwo-Olu invites Rhodes-Vivour, others to join progressive agenda

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended an open invitation to his opponents in the 2023 governorship election, urging them to join his commitment to progressive governance for the development of the state.

Sanwo-Olu’s invitation follows the Supreme Court’s affirmed election of Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as Governor of Lagos State, dismissing the appeal filed by Labour Party (LP)’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

The LP and its candidate, Rhodes-Vivour, had asked the court to determine whether Sanwo-Olu, was qualified to contest the election because his deputy and running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, has dual citizenship.

However, in its lead judgement that was delivered by Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, the Supreme Court said there was no evidence that Sanwo-Olu’s deputy denounced his Nigerian citizenship.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement released after the Supreme Court’s judgement, reiterated his stance on inclusivity, stating that there are no victors and no vanquished.

He also stated that his affirmation revalidates the trust and confidence that Lagosians have placed in our vision for a greater Lagos and then extended an invitation to those who may still be undecided, urging them to join the progressive governance agenda.

“I’m grateful for the Supreme Court’s affirmation of my election as Governor of Lagos State. An affirmation that revalidates the trust and confidence our people have placed in our vision for a greater Lagos. Thank you all for your unwavering support,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

“Like I always say, there are no victors and no vanquished. I invite those still on the fence to join our train of progressive governance. We run an inclusive government and do not claim a monopoly of ideas.”

The Governor also acknowledged the privilege of serving the people alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and called on all residents to unite in the common goal of building a Lagos that thrives, progresses, and uplifts every citizen.

“The journey continues, and our commitment remains steadfast,” he declared.
