NOC preaches continuous education for sports administrators

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has urged sports administrators to always avail themselves of opportunities to enhance their knowledge in various aspects of their sports.

Over 22 sports administrators from across the country participated at a three-day course organised by the NOC in partnership with the National Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD) South West zone.

Held at the boardroom of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, from June 5 to 7, the programme attracted participants from various professions, including lawyers, doctors, journalists, and secretaries of Sports Federations, with Prof. Abiodun Moronfolu, Prof. Patrick Oyeniyi, Dr Toyin Aluko, and Dr Akin Amao, among others, as facilitators.

Aimed at boosting sports administration in the country, programme coordinator, Mrs Deborah Chidobi, said the seminar was aimed at equipping participants with the required tools to excel in their profession.

Earlier, NOC President, Habu Gumel, who declared the seminar closed, urged the participants to go back to their states and start putting what they learnt into practice.

“The goal is to promote harmony in sports management worldwide based on active collaboration to ensure its success in various states and organisations, including Nigeria.

“The International Olympic Committee (IOC), through its solidarity programme, designed the sports administration and advanced sports management courses to help National Olympic Committees in enhancing the skills of sports administration worldwide.
