NPC trains journalists on census reporting

National Population Commission (NPC), yesterday, trained no fewer than 20 media practitioners in Delta State on knowledge and skills to effectively report coming Population and Housing Census in the state.

In his address, NPC Federal Commissioner in Delta State, Chief Richard Odibo, said the workshop was designed to improve capacity of journalists to effectively and professionally report the Census processes.

Odibo, represented by the state Director, Mr. Patrick Lotobi, enjoined the trainees to accord the workshop tagged: “State Level Capacity Building Workshop for Journalists on Effective Reporting of the 2023 Population and Housing Census”, the seriousness it deserves as knowledge and skills acquired would aid the outcome of their reportage.

He said the Commission was committed to training of journalists to make them have first-hand knowledge of the populace, ranging from demographic information, social, economic value and fertility and mortality rate of citizens and migrants of the country.

According to the commissioner, journalists’ roles in the Census processes cannot be overemphasised, as they inform, educate and promote acceptable data for the Commission to get it right.
